A double bass solo performance is a rare and special event on world music stages and a double bass solo concert in Lithuania is an even rarer phenomenon, inviting you to hear one of the great instruments of the stage in a solo role.
Jazz double bassist Vytis Nivinskas will appear on stage alone, performing his own compositions and recordings without any accompaniment. Each piece will be unique and exclusive - improvised compositions that will reveal the musician's unique vision.
"For some time, Vytis has been the king in the middle of an empty field. There were very few jazz double bass players who could improvise, and Nivinskas didn't just play very well - he had developed a recognisable sound, a distinctive vocabulary, and over the years he never stopped growing his skills. Now the ranks of jazz double bassists have grown, but Vytis is still the king", says Laima Slepkovaitė, host of LRT's "I Like Jazz" programme, about Nivinskas, who will give a solo concert at the Muzikos Magijos Klub.
The "vienis" in the title is the totality of one man's creative flow, which is impossible to separate, as sound, composition, improvisation, emotions and logic merge into an indivisible unity through one instrument and one man. And during the double bass solo, not only Vytis Nivinskas' musical ideas will become "vienis", but also the audience's reaction in the chamber space of the Muzikos magijos klubas, experiencing the unpredictable beauty of improvisation and the flow of a common energy here and now.
