Opera soloists have been using their bodies as instruments for centuries. In the world of instrumentalists, this is still a rarity. Dominyka Šeibok is an exception.

This exceptionally versatile artist, flutist, and project creator has repeatedly captivated the audience of the Music Magic Club with both profound classical music concerts and unexpected performances. This time, she returns with a unique project, “Bringing Music to Life,” in which she will break the mold and seek to prove that the instrument is only part of what a performer can express on stage.

We will hear a theatrical interpretation of Schubert’s “Ständchen,” in which Dominyka will join forces with pianist Simona Zajančauskaitė and percussionist Džiugas Daugirdas. Later, the artist will perform Debussy’s “Syrinx” without an instrument—it will come to life solely through facial expressions, her voice, and the “language” of her hands. The evening will culminate in a theatrical free improvisation—a unique, long-developed style of Dominyka’s own, which one might call an entirely separate art form.

Is it possible not only to hear classical music, but also to see it? Flutist Dominyka Šeibok is convinced that it is. Having returned to Lithuania after her studies and creative work in the United States, the artist is presenting a unique project titled “Music Embodied,” in which classical pieces blend with movement, theater, visuals, and performance. Interpretations of classical music in this form have been virtually nonexistent in Lithuania until now.

“I’m always looking for pieces that move me deeply on an emotional level—those are the only ones I perform. As I listen to them over and over again, ideas begin to emerge that often transcend the boundaries of music alone. However, the flute always comes first,” D. Šeibok admits in a press release.

From Rules to Complete Freedom

Two years ago, upon returning to Lithuania from California, the flutist brought back not only international experience but also a question that still sounds unusual in the world of classical music: how can one convey to the audience everything that lies behind every sound? She spent five years searching for the answer.

“My flute teachers would constantly correct me—in classical music, everything has to be precisely regulated: breathing, posture, hand position. But for me, movement has always been a natural form of expression,” the performer explains. Later, she began to consciously work not only with her body but also with her facial expressions. According to Dominyka, the face shouldn’t just be a consequence of playing—it can become the story itself:

“I wanted more than just my flute to play. I wanted my whole body and my whole soul to play.”

RE:TURN is a project by the Music Magic Club aimed at bringing young, professional Lithuanian musicians who currently live abroad or have recently returned to Lithuania into the cultural orbit of Vilnius. These are musicians who often have significant achievements in the international arena and are well known in other countries, but do not yet have enough opportunities to perform frequently in their homeland. This cycle aims to create conditions for them to take their rightful place among their colleagues in Lithuanian musical life and to gain recognition from music lovers in Vilnius.
