On the eve of the first edition (1727) of George Philipp Telemann’s (1681–1767) 12 Fantasias for Solo Flute, flutist Paulius Gefenas invites you to a concert dedicated to the fantasia as a genre and as a manifesto of humanity that unites us all.
Telemann, known as the “Godfather” (as 18th-century musicians often called him), was a colorful personality and composer who experimented with musical form and the very concept of the musical instrument. Therefore, in honor of his legacy, we will not only delve into the authentic treasures of Telemann’s fantasias but also hear brand-new works by contemporary composers—fantasias dedicated specifically to this project. We’ll let our imaginations run wild and search for the spirit of Telemann in the world of sound!
Composer Manuel Velázquez (Mexico) will also participate in the event.
