The Magic of Suatrtinės is an event for all those whose hearts yearn for communion, for sounding together, for discovery, and maybe even for adventure.
Led by Laurita Peleniūtė, the author of the unique sutartinės teaching system and folklore performer, the circles of sutartinės are a place where you can start singing, even if you have never done so before. Here you will be surrounded by a circle of strangers, where status, age, gender, experience and social backgrounds disappear. And here you will speak a different language - the language of sutartinės.
We invite you to discover and rediscover a legacy so old, yet so new to modern man, that is preserved by our ancestors! If you don't know how to sing, don't be intimidated - no singing experience is necessary, Laurita will show you and teach you! As she says herself, "if you can talk, you can sing"!
Sutartinės - one of the oldest recorded Lithuanian folk songs. They are protected by Unesco as an intangible asset of Lithuanian heritage. These polyphonic, ritualistic songs were sung centuries ago by people who worked the land, lived in the rhythm of the Sun, celebrated the equinoxes, fed and ate from nature, and did hard work. Today, when we no longer need to sow flax for clothing or grow rye for bread, there is more and more time to search for our identity. The twists and turns of history, the changes in people's lives, the innovations, sink some traditions into oblivion, but we are witnessing a rebirth..... different, in different colours, but a rebirth. In the same way, the way of sutartinės, which have been forgotten in rural communities, is being revived in the world of the modern urban man, as a system of singing that brings communion and heals the longing of the heart.
