RE:TURN. Twin Beacons | Augustinas Eidukonis

Event was held on 2026-04-28
  • What if Ravel's Mermaid bathed in Čiurlionis' Sea? And how would Čiurlionis' Evening Bells sound in Ravel's Valley of the Bells? Both composers were born 150 years ago and shone brightly, like twin lights from Čiurlionis' painting Serenity. This inspired the search for parallels between these very different, unique, yet similar composers – in the pictorial nature, colors, and mysticism of their music.

The program, which captivated French audiences last year, will be performed this year in Vilnius at the Magic of Music Club. Augustinas Eidukonis, a pianist who lives and performs in Paris, presents a dialogue between these two of the most prominent composers of Lithuania and France.

The program will be complemented by the lively and colorful Fifth Partita by Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk, full of jazz and folk music nuances, and two works by Frédéric Chopin composed in Paris - Fantasy in F minor and Scherzo No. 4 in E major.

Described as a "wonderfully poetic and laconic pianist" (Kieler Nachrichten), Augustinas Eidukonis is a multi-award-winning musician who won the 2021 Possehl Music Prize in Lübeck as "the unanimous winner for his seriousness and freedom on stage, convincing with his intimate and thoughtful interpretation."

This performance by Augustinas Eidukonis at the Magic of Music Club is part of the RE:TURN project. The project is partly funded by the Vilnius City Municipality.

RE:TURN is a project by the Magic of Music Club aimed at bringing young, professional Lithuanian musicians who currently live abroad or have recently returned to Lithuania into the cultural orbit of Vilnius. These are musicians who often have significant achievements in the international arena and are well known in other countries, but do not yet have enough opportunities to perform frequently in their homeland. This cycle aims to create conditions for them to take their rightful place among their colleagues in Lithuanian musical life and to gain recognition from music lovers in Vilnius.
