This time, we will continue our series of musical journeys in Sub-Saharan Africa, whose boundless expanses are home to a wealth of the most exotic musical cultures. African music stands out for its incredible abundance of forms and styles, the tonal diversity of its musical instruments, its traditions of choral singing, and its multi-layered rhythms.
We’ll listen to exotic, rarely heard recordings: polyphonic singing by the Pygmies of Central Africa, mythical tales about the origins of instruments, a playful balafon ensemble, the meditative sound of the Zimbabwean mbira, choral harmonies of the Wagogo tribe of Tanzania, and a xylophone and drum ensemble from Burkina Faso.
The evening will be hosted by world music expert and Doctor of Arts Eirimas Velička. The language of the evnet is Lithuanian.
