The first installment of this fall’s “Musical Journeys with Eirimas Velička” will take us to sunny Brazil, where the music has a distinctive and recognizable sound. Listening to this music, images of the endless blue sky and the sun-drenched beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema come to mind. Brazilian music is famous for the boisterous and colorful rhythms of the Rio carnivals and the fiery samba batucada, as well as the gentle, dreamy melodies of bossa nova.

During the session, we’ll listen to authentic samba and bossa nova recordings and explore memorable albums by Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim and singer-guitarist João Gilberto. If the mood strikes, we might even play some music, learn a few samba steps, and unravel the intricate patterns of Brazilian rhythms.

The evening will be hosted by world music expert and Doctor of Arts Eirimas Velička. The language of the event is LITHUANIAN.
