This evening's listening session is dedicated to one of the most prominent musical figures of the second half of the 20th century, Krzysztof Penderecki.
Penderecki was a composer who fundamentally changed our understanding of sound. In his music, sound is not just a carrier of melody or harmony – it becomes a physical, psychological, and sometimes even existential experience. This is music that does not so much "tell a story" as it acts: it presses, tears, freezes, and sometimes – unexpectedly calms.
In Penderecki's work, we can hear several very different periods: radical avant-garde, a later return to traditional forms, and a unique, elusive synthesis between these worlds. The recordings selected for this evening's program allow us to look at this tension and development not theoretically, but through the sound itself.
