More than 100 years after his death, Čiurlionis' works are still a source of inspiration for countless artists. Two masters of improvisational music - Dmitrij Golovanov and Jan Maksimovič - will reveal the beauty, delicacy and sublime nature of the Lithuanian genius' music.
"We have been performing and studying the music of Čiurlionis for a long time. In the beginning, it was the intention to modernise and actualise Čiurlionis. However, in the long run we discovered that we did not change Čiurlionis, he changed us. Our thinking, our performance, our perception of the music - everything has changed as we have got to know Čiurlionis more and more"
Both musicians are among the most prominent figures in the country’s improvisational music and jazz scenes. Their biographies are filled with performances on the country’s most prestigious stages, numerous collaborations with international artists, and an extensive geography of concerts abroad. However, what matters most to them is the live, in-the-moment musical interaction with the audience — the experience of every second and the music born on the spot, where the listener becomes a participant.
