The quintet, formed at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, continues the tradition of ensemble playing that has existed since the inception of the accordion program. The ensemble actively performs at various festivals and concerts throughout Lithuania. At the concert, you will hear not only the quintet—each member will also perform as a soloist.
The concert program will showcase the breadth of the quintet’s capabilities—from the classical clarity and elegance characteristic of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Domenico Scarlatti to the modern, rhythmically sharp, and expressive musical language of Igor Stravinsky, Magnus Lindberg, and Veli Kujala. You will also hear passionate works by Astor Piazzolla and Fazıl Say.
What makes this ensemble unique is that it includes two performers who also compose music. The concert will feature the premieres of works by two members of the quintet: R. Grimbovskis’s “Las Meninas,” written specifically for the accordion quintet, and A. Tamulevičius’s solo piece “Why so serious?” .
