FREYLEKH! | Gintaras Januševičius

Renginys įvyko 2025-11-04
  • Pianist Gintaras Januševičius has been surprising his listeners for ten years with his inventive programs, including the unforgettable "The Little Prince", "All Chopin Waltzes", "The New Colossus" or "The Tales of the Merchant of Venice". In each program, G. Januševičius, like a chameleon, not only transforms into different characters, but also moves to another era, culture or musical style. For many years, while creating his unique programs, he carefully selects works and assembles them into a single musical "necklace", which he embellishes with stories, images, acting elements or even smells.

The axis of the latest program "FREYLEKH!" is inspiring life stories of composers of Jewish origin.

"My grandmother was Jewish and survived World War II. This program is a reflection of her smile, optimism, and fortitude," says the pianist. "That's why the overall mood of the program is upbeat, festive, inviting to dance and forget the worries that cloud the sky of life."

The "highlights" of the evening are Felix Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" arranged by Vladimir Horowitz and Earl Wilde's Seven Etudes on Themes of Broadway Musicals by George Gershwin, which have never been fully performed in Lithuania, Erwin Schulhoff's "Jazz Dance Suite" by the father of European jazz, and Viktor Ullmann's 7th Sonata, written shortly before his death in a concentration camp. The audience will also get to know the Latvian-born composer Marc Lavry and the prominent Hollywood composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, whose students include the famous John Williams.
