Carlos Kleiber | listening to records

This Sunday's listening session at the Magic of Music Club is dedicated to the brilliant conductor and a highly eccentric personality Carlos Kleiber!

"Listeners don't need to understand conducting technique to appreciate Kleiber's work. You just need to hear, see, and feel it. He felt music with both his body and soul and was able to convey it to others," said H. Reiter, project manager of the film about the conductor.

According to many colleagues and listeners, he was one of the most prominent conductors of all time, but he was not known for his pleasant personality - concert organizers and television project directors would break out in cold sweat when working with this conductor! There was certainly reason to be anxious—Kleiber often canceled or interrupted planned projects, and he only agreed to perform when he liked the project himself, and only where he liked it.

It is said that he conducted rarely, his repertoire was very limited, and most of it was not even preserved for future generations. However, there was something inexplicable about almost all of his performances – he "controlled" the musicians so masterfully that it seemed as if this charismatic conductor had been touched by the hand of God.

During the listening session, we will enjoy some of the works by L. van Beethoven, F. Schubert, and J. Brahms, masterfully conducted by this composer and performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra between 1974 and 1980.
