Between Light and Shadows | Julija Sadaunykaitė

2026-04-16,  Thursday — 19:00
  • Pianist Julija Sadaunykaitė's concert offers a glimpse into the world of human inner experiences, imagination, and spiritual states. The program brings together composers from different periods, whose music is imbued with drama, faith, mystery, and nocturnal fantasies.

    A. Remesa's Stigmata, which will be performed at the beginning of the evening, opens up an intense space filled with sacredness and inner tension, Johannes Brahms's 4 Ballads, Op. 10, transports us to the world of Romantic tales, intertwining heroic motifs, lyricism, and archaic power.

A special place in the program is reserved for F. Chopin's Ballade No. 4, one of the most mature and profound works in piano literature, in which subtle calm gradually gives way to a dramatic climax. The spirit of the 20th century is revealed in O. Messiaen's Première communion de la Vierge, a mystical opus full of light, faith, and a sense of frozen time.

The concert culminates with M. Ravel's suite Gaspard de la nuit, considered one of the most complex and impressive piano compositions. The three parts – Ondine, Le Gibet, and Scarbo – reveal dark and mesmerizing images of the night, requiring great skill and imagination from the performer.
