The Eternal Melody | Indian Classical Music

Event was held on 2026-06-05
  • We invite you to rise above the mundane and immerse yourself in the world of dhrupad—one of the oldest traditions of Indian classical music—which transcends the boundaries of time.

In the first part of the concert, you will hear a duet featuring the vocals of Simona Chalikovaitė (Portugal/Lithuania) and the pakhawaj percussion master Federico Sanesi (Italy), accompanied by the sound of the tanpura. In the second part, Adomas Šimkūnas will perform on the bansuri flute, accompanied by Federico Sanesi on the pakhawaj.

Dhrupad is one of the oldest Indian musical traditions and is considered the foundation of the entire Indian classical music system. It is music imbued with majestic tranquility, concentration, and inner light. It is a refined musical form that invites the listener into a sensitive, contemplative presence—with sound, with the moment, with oneself.

The roots of Dhrupad reach back to the ancient Vedic chanting tradition—the Sama Veda—in which sound was perceived as a sacred and transformative power. Initially cultivated in temple spaces as music for meditation, dhrupad later moved to the palaces of rulers, where it became a solemn and refined form of classical art. Despite this journey through different spaces, dhrupad has retained its essence—a deep connection with silence, inner peace, and the meditative expression of sound.

At the concert, you will hear melodic classical ragas that begin with meditative calm and gradually transform into a lively, dynamic interplay of rhythm and melody.
