Bassist, composer, festival organizer, and bandleader Leonidas Šinkarenko is one of the country’s most creative jazz figures. Over the course of more than four decades, he has played in the ensembles of Petras Vyšniauskas, Vladimir Čekasin, and Vytautas Labutis, in the quintet “Džiazo nublokšti,” the Vilnius Jazz Quartet, Vladimir Tarasov’s project “Lithuanian Art Orchestra,” Dainius Pulauskas’s group, and other ensembles.
Another of Leonid Šinkarenko’s contributions to the Lithuanian jazz scene is the trio Shinkarenko Jazz 3, which will perform at the Magic of Music Club, bringing together some of the most talented jazz musicians of the younger generation. Joining the veteran on stage will be pianist Andrius Savčenko and drummer Mihails Novikovs. This is a small ensemble where the most important thing is the musicians’ live interaction on stage—spontaneous improvisations, sensitive responses to one another, and a constantly changing musical flow.
