  • John Richard Handy III - a renowned jazz singer and saxophone magician - was born in 1933, had already played in Charles Mingus' band in the 1950s ("Mingus Ah Um" 1959; "Blues and Roots" 1960, and up to 10 more albums), released some 20 albums since 1959 and remained one of the most creative jazz musicians until 2020.

In addition to various formal accolades, including Grammy nominations, he has many loyal fans around the world, although the circles are as diverse as the various genres of jazz music in his repertoire.

We invite you to listen to some of John Handy's most popular albums - Recorded Live at the Monterey Jazz Festival (1966), Hard Work (1976) - a couple of tracks, Carnival (1977) - a track or two, and be sure to listen to at least the title track from Karuna Supreme (1975, with Ali Akbar Khan).

The recordings are played in high quality from vinyl or high-resolution digital files, which enable the audience to feel the specific emotional content, to evaluate the nuances of the performance, to reveal the depths of this music.

    The event is free.
