The legendary jazz pianist and composer Duke Ellington left behind an extensive collection of recordings — solo works, collaborations with other renowned musicians, and, of course, performances with his famous jazz ensemble, “Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra.”
Duke Ellington was the first composer to merge the expressive tools of jazz with the principles of classical music. His works such as Black, Brown and Beige, The Perfume Suite, New Orleans Suite, and Concerts of Sacred Music are suites written for jazz and symphonic orchestra.
Ellington received 12 Grammy Awards, including one in 1966 for lifetime achievement.
