Closer to Music

Chick Corea: Following the Path of a Jazz Legend

Event was held on 2026-02-10
  • This evening of "Closer to Music" will focus on Chick Corea's late creative period: acoustic projects, famous duets with such greats as Gary Burton, Béla Fleck, Bobby McFerrin, and Herbie Hancock, as well as the famous Acoustic Band with John Patitucci and Dave Weckl. During the evening, we will listen to specially selected recordings by Chick Corea on equipment that allows us to feel the subtle nuances of the performance, and between pieces, pianist A. Polevikovas will share short stories about the life and work of this performer.

Chick Corea is one of the pioneers of the jazz fusion genre, having collaborated with Miles Davis and created bold experiments with electronics and complex rhythmic structures. During his lifetime, he released more than 90 albums and won 27 Grammy Awards! Songs such as Spain, Armando's Rhumba, and La Fiesta have become jazz standards and are still played on stages around the world.

Please note that this evening is not a concert, but a "Closer to Music" event.

CLOSER TO MUSIC are not concerts, but evenings of encounters with music, led by interesting "companions" – musicologists, musicians, music lovers – fans of a particular genre, composer, instrument, performer, or country's musical culture. They talk about the peculiarities of this music, demonstrate it live, and select characteristic recordings for listening. The recordings are reproduced in high quality from vinyl records or high-resolution digital files, allowing listeners to feel the specific emotional content, appreciate the nuances of the performance, and reveal the depths of this music.
